Locaria’s Cristina Marín, from Almería in southern Spain but now resident in Acton, West London, is shortlisted for Project Manager of the Year in the annual ATC Language Industry Awards.

Cristina, fluent in French, English, Italian and her native Spanish, handles one of the company’s biggest accounts, which grew three-fold in May, and maintained excellent standards and service when workload and revenue tripled.

She said: “It is a great honour to be shortlisted as a finalist for the Project Manager of the Year award. We have faced very demanding challenges at Locaria this year and I am pleased that, with the help of all the team and linguists we have achieved very positive results.”

Colleague Laura Cantora, who nominated Cristina for the award, said: “Cristina coordinated all the additional projects and added them to the existing and already busy work processes, delivering high amounts of additional translations without missing a single deadline and with no reduction in quality. Furthermore, she did not lose her smile once!”

Cristina manages the account seamlessly, despite operating across time zones from Australia to Vietnam, Iceland, and Mexico with a broad base of 40 language pairs. If that were not enough, she is also leading a significant internal piece of work to migrate Locaria onto a new translation project management system.

Laura added: “Cristina has the ability to handle complex projects impeccably and without stress, plus she has a delightful nature and gentle approach. It’s no wonder that all who work with her are full of praise.”

The ATC Language Industry Awards seek to recognise and celebrate excellence within the industry, which provides professional language services to every conceivable sector. Winners will be announced at the end of September at the Language Industry Summit in Cardiff.

The theme of the conference is ‘The Changing Landscape: UK Language Industry 2020 and Beyond’ and delegates will hear from guest speakers including award-winning political journalist Isabel Oakeshott.

The Association of Translation Companies

The Association of Translation Companies (ATC) is the world’s longest established professional association representing the interests of Language Service Providers.

It is the leading voice for companies operating in the UK’s expanding language services industry, which is worth more than £1 billion and employs more than 12,000 people.

Having been formed in 1976 by a group of translation companies in Britain, the ATC has expanded significantly over the last 40 years and now has members from all over the world.
