The Locarians Go Abroad Experience

At Locaria, a lot of our daily work revolves around translation, localisation, transcreation, voice-overs… simply put: words. But as the saying goes, we believe that actions speak even louder–lived, in-person experiences that shape how we work and grow together. We wanted to create something that strengthens team bonds and cultural understanding while also embodying our company values: With Care, Taking Content Further, Celebrating Individuality, Doing Good Along The Way, and Growing Together. Sometimes though, given our globally spread out teams and flexible, remote working environments, that’s easier said than done. 

In light of this, two years ago, we  launched a new initiative to literally take content (and our employees) further: Locarians Go Abroad. For those who dream of working from a different global office, experiencing a new culture, and making a difference, this internal travel program is designed to bring our global workforce closer than ever–while also doing some good along the way.

A Unique Opportunity to Explore, Connect, and Give Back

Through this initiative, eligible Locaria employees can win the opportunity to visit and work from one of our global offices, strengthening our international community and reinforcing the values that make our company such a unique and inspiring place to work. But Locarians Go Abroad is more than just travel and team-building—it’s about truly making a difference. At Locaria, we believe in the power of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and encourage our employees to use their skills to give back. Focused on celebrating individuality, employees have to select and take part in a CSR volunteering activity and create an awareness campaign to bring visibility to the topic and participate in the challenge. The winner gets to travel to a new location for up to two weeks, including a trip to the Locaria office of their choice (Barcelona, Cairo, Kuala Lumpur, London, Madrid or Mexico City) and accommodation for the duration of their stay. That way, the initiative offers a chance to experience different cultures firsthand, collaborate with colleagues in a dynamic new environment, and contribute to both professional and social impact projects.

With Care: The Core of Our Initiative

We know that, at Locaria, our strength lies in the diversity of our people. With employees from a wide array of cultural, linguistic, and professional backgrounds, we embrace and amplify individuality, inclusivity, and respect in everything we do. That is why in our most recent edition of Locarians Go Abroad, our well-deserved winner, Content Analyst Begoña González, supported Calala, an inspiring NGO dedicated to advancing the rights of women and the LGBTQI+ community. Calala advocates for a fair life free from violence, while also promoting full economic and social autonomy. 

As part of the initiative, Begoña launched a project that involved the localisation of Calala’s website from Spanish to English, directly contributing to their mission by improving their online presence and widening their reach. This enhanced visibility and accessibility helped Calala connect with a broader audience and secure the support they need to empower vulnerable communities. 

For her upcoming trip, Begoña has chosen to visit our Mexico City office, immersing herself in a new cultural and professional environment. While she has yet to make the journey, her decision highlights the growing significance of our Mexico hub and the connections being fostered across our global teams. We look forward to seeing the impact of her visit and the experiences she will bring back to share.

Heart-warming and encouraging campaigns such as Begoña’s lie at the core of what our initiative is trying to achieve: giving our employees the opportunity to travel the world, while also encouraging them to leave a meaningful impact.

Strengthening the Locarian Culture

While giving back to others is the main purpose of the initiative, Locarians themselves also benefit from the unique opportunity the travel program provides. By stepping into a different office, our people not only broaden their horizons but also bring back fresh insights and experiences that enrich our global culture overall. The initiative strengthens cross-border collaboration and team-building, deepens our appreciation for the diversity within our organisation, and reinforces our company values through immersive experiences. 

As we continue to expand our global footprint, fostering a culture that embraces diversity, professional growth, and social responsibility remains at the heart of what we do. Locarians Go Abroad is a testament to our commitment to empowering our employees to learn, connect, and create positive change—both within our organisation and in the wider world.
