Basics: Social Media in East Asia

Social media networks have become an intrinsic part of our daily life with a multitude of networks available in the western world. They have also become a profitable tool for companies as it allows them to directly reach a highly targeted audience. The big players such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat and even instant messaging apps such as WhatsApp have begun implementing new features like “Status”. This allows users to upload and share special moments with their contacts, edging closer and closer towards a Snapchat style user experience, which is a fairly new direction for these platforms. Other countries meanwhile, have developed their own local online community such as Xing which is similar to LinkedIn but mostly used in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
