What has changed

From the director’s chair to the dashboard

AI voice lets brands add narration to content that used to rely on supers, keep one recognisable voice across languages and personalise audio at scale. Newer models can even adjust prosody to local norms, making a voice sound more enthusiastic for a US audience or more reserved for a Japanese one.

The skill set has shifted too. A natural performance now takes prompt engineering and phonetics, adjusting pitch, speed and intonation line by line. The whitepaper also compares leading tools at the time of writing: ElevenLabs for pure audio, HeyGen for video localisation and Synthesia for avatar-led video.

The trade-offs at a glance

Where AI voice wins

  • Speed, scale and efficiency: audio in days rather than weeks, without repeated usage fees
  • Global consistency: one tonal character, such as a founder, mascot or brand ambassador, in every language
  • Hyper-personalisation: thousands of audio variations by name, location or behaviour

Where it needs care

  • Nuance: the breaths and hesitations that signal honesty can be lost in high-empathy categories such as healthcare and banking
  • Homogenisation: overused stock and cloned voices make brands sound alike
  • Expectations: heavy iteration can shift savings into prompting, engineering and tokens
  • Ethics and law: consent, cloning and usage rights need clear policies

Locaria’s six-step AI audio process

  1. Start from the master asset: a locked script and a high-fidelity reference recording.
  2. Transcreate the script, with stakeholders signing off through back-translations.
  3. Choose the voice: clone the source voice, create a new character voice or select a preset.
  4. Generate and refine, with a native speaker reviewing inflection and pronunciation.
  5. Mix and master the voice to the film, then run final QC before delivery.
  6. Where needed, add AI lip-sync to match words to mouth movements.
